Thanks for your interest in joining our snow and ice management team this year. We look forward to working with you. Below is a little information to let you know what it's all about. Please feel free to call if you have any questions. The application is at the bottom of the page. It must be completed in order to get the job.

What to Expect

Here is a quick video that shows what you'll mostly be doing:  https://youtu.be/vKpn3ooHZq4?si=WbpSDJ0qq9rXBP1S.   It's  alot of walking on sidewalks and pushing the "man plow" that you see in the video.

The work is performed at a government facility. Once you fill out the application, they will run a background check on you to determine if you're allowed onsite or not. Once your background check has cleared, you're on our list of approved workers.

We will email and text you a couple days in advance of a storm to let you know that you're getting called in to work. Once we get a little closer to the actual snow event, we'll email/text to confirm details about meeting location, start time, and how long the storm will last.   We will normally meet in the Fort Meade or Crownsville area, depending on the storm.

What to Bring

The following is a minimum list of gear that you should bring. There is no such thing as too much. We have space to store extra gear. The people that make it back time and again and put a bunch of cash in their pockets are the ones who show up PREPARED. I cannot overstate this.

  • Waterproof snow gear (two sets recommended), like in this (Good Snow Suit).  If you show up in jeans and a hoodie, then you will be miserable.
  • Snow boots (two sets recommended), like in this (Good Snow Boots). If you show up in tennis shoes, then you will be miserable.
  • Waterproof gloves (two sets recommended), like in this (Good Snow Gloves). If you show up in brown cotton gloves, then you will be miserable and you will not last.
  • Rain suit, like in this (Good Rain Suit). This isn't mandatory, but you'll really wish you brought one if it starts to rain and you soak your snow suit.
  • Extra socks, extra socks, extra socks, extra socks, and extra socks. Wool socks are the best (Smartwool is great!). White athletic socks will leave you cold and miserable.
  • Extra long johns (synthetic is better than cotton) and extra fleece midlayer
  • Food and drinks to last through the duration of the event.  We have a microwave that you can use. Pack enough food and drinks to keep your energy up.   We always have a pot of hot coffee ready too.

To Summarize:

  • You get paid $35 an hour
  • You get paid within a few days after the work is done
  • We will email/text before the storm to tell you when/where/how long/ etc
  • Sign up NOW to get on the list.  If you wait until the last minute, you won't get in.
